My vision of Ibadan in 2020

Reblogged from READ MY POEM;a website for young and upcoming african poets.:

‘Tis the beginning of a new dawn

A year not far from this present one

In the city of the greats called Ibadan

Where a windy storm now shows forth

The bright blue sky covers us now

The rain had leached away the bad soil

Displaying the beauty of a greener vegetation

Surely, Ibadan has surpassed all limitations

A gem you are to the Yoruba race…

The New Nigeria

The trees tilt much,

Dry leaves shake and fall

Displaying its fruit as much

As that eaten in a brunch

The land has been found

Safe from severe disasters around

Endowed with milk and foliage

This is the greener and whiter Nigeria.

Parted by two golden bodies and bight

One to the left and the other, right

Depositing along their body,

Resources and every other trophy

a blue cloud dawns this hour

After which comes a victorious rain shower

Listen, then you can hear it a mile yonder

Hope it washes this past mess forever

Dances and shakes from all directions

A hug in a standing position

 The Nigerian performs his greetings

His mouth and nut locked in a meeting

Then music of joy comes from another

Hop to the right and left, my brothers

move like his large raffia weaved hat

As it dances to the melody from his heart

Truly, no paradise is lost

We will be stronger in diversity and trust

If we abide in unity like fellow brothers

This is the picture of my new Nigeria

My vision of Ibadan in 2020

‘Tis the beginning of a new dawn

A year not far from this present one

In the city of the greats called Ibadan

Where a windy storm now shows forth

The bright blue sky covers us now

The rain had leached away the bad soil

Displaying the beauty of a greener vegetation

Surely, Ibadan has surpassed all limitations

A gem you are to the Yoruba race

Rare cultures of ours you kept at your place

Pleasures and recreation you offer to the world

You are the Garden of Eden if it ever existed

Flying beauties perch and chirp happily

At the burst of electricity flowing constantly

The world could not help but to be amazed,

You have achieved what they deemed impossible

Amenities and electricity to indigenous firms

Irrigation as a source of water to numerous farms

An impact you have on the Nigerian economy

A cessation you have brought to countless strikes

The roads are strong and dazzling as never

Lit with white light similar to that in paradise

Where red and green lights gave the orders

Only in Ibadan is night brighter than day forever

The streets are as calm as never

Criminal’s tales are now lore for storytellers

Because the police have become our good friends

Bragged the children as they danced in new trends

Ole, ole, ole jeered the spectators

What a day shouted the commentator

At the forefront was the loved governor

The day our dear 3sc won the league

What a dream you my say

But friend anticipate this day

For this is the greatest revolution of all,

Surely it has already begun.

Hello young poets,

Due to the high hopes of young poets and the shortage of a publicizing medium, we decided to launch a website that will serve as a platform for the promotion of young poets. Each poets that’s applies for his/her work to be pasted has already agreed to a nonprofit partnership which serves to favour the poet more than the website management.

Read my poem is a website that’s intends to help you to show case your poems for all to see, we will help you to paste your poems here, for the whole world to see. Furthermore, we offer reviews of your poems free of charge and other young poets can also access your work on this website to praise or criticize.

The website is still in its test running phase which is totally free, and will continue as this so as to view its acceptance before starting in full.

In the nearest future, we hope to produce e- magazines and subsequently the hardcopy versions of poems of active members.

Awards would be given to the poets whose poems have the highest number of positive reviews tri-monthly.
